Michael Silva, 83, of New Bedford passed away on May 13, 2023 after a brief illness of Bladder Cancer. He was with family at the time of his death.

He was the son of the late Anthony J Silva SR and Antonia T Silva. He was born in Providence RI and raised in South Dartmouth.

He had served in the Army from 1957-1958 as a Military Police. In 1962, he married Barbara Gomes and lived in New Bedford, MA. He worked as a welder at the docks until his injury in the 70’s.
In 1991 he married Elaine G. Rezendes from Marion, MA.

He leaves behind two daughters, Michaelleana and Barby-ann Silva, both of New Bedford. Three grandchildren Sean Booker of N Attleborough, Heather Cordero and her husband Luis Cordero, Brandin Braxton and his girlfriend Nicole Amaral-DeBarros, both from New Bedford. He has 4 great grandchildren, Jahdin, Jaylah, Joylene and Julian Cordero all of New Bedford. He also leaves behind his brothers Joseph A Silva SR and his wife Anne, Anthony J Silva JR. and his Companion Brenda, both of New Bedford. Three godchildren Michelle Baker, Dianna Holley (Dee Dee) and Frank Antunes all of New Bedford. His brother-in-law Christian Rezendes, John Rezendes and Zach G Rezendes of Marion, Sister-in-law Mary Lomba and Joanne G Lopes of Marion, Lucy G. Reynolds of Connecticut, and Enis Krol of Texas. He was preceded by his sister Anna M. Gomes, brothers Edward, Frank, and Jimmy Silva all from New Bedford. His first wife Barbara A Gomes, and second wife Elaine G Silva. He also preceded by his two grandchildren Leann and Miguel Rebecca and one Great Granddaughter Jazalene I. Cordero. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Mike loved being around people and playing cards, dominos, bingo, going to the casino and playing his daily lottery numbers. He enjoyed being with his family at family gatherings and watching all the kids playing. He was an Auxiliary Police for many years and gained many good friends during that time.

He enjoyed the time he went to Las Vegas with his brother Joe and wife Anne.

Visiting hours will take place at Perry Funeral Home on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 AM and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Marion.

The family wants to thank all the agencies, Preferred from Fall River, Coastline, and the great team he had from Both Providence VA and Boston HealthCare System. A special thanks to his Homeward bound nurse Amy Olivera who visited him every two weeks like clockwork.
