Sidonio “Sid” Silva, 65, a longtime resident of Lowell passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Sid was born on March 16, 1958 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal to his late father Manuel (Serafim) DaSilva and his devoted mother Malvina (Bettencourt) DaSilva of Lowell. He was educated and raised in Graciosa before immigrating to the United State in 1974 at the age of 16.
For many years, Sid dedicated his talents and efforts to Interstate Container until his retirement in 2017. He found solace and faith as a communicant of St. Anthony’s Parish.
Sid’s life was centered on his family. He was a devoted son to his parents, proud father to his cherished children, loving “booboo” to his grandchildren and a good friend to his neighbors and colleagues. When not with his family, he spent his time working on his DYI home projects or tending to his vegetable garden, roses bushes and grape vines. When he had the time, he would enjoy the summer weather fishing in Cape Cod.
Sid is survived by his loving mother, Malvina DaSilva of Lowell; his children, Christopher Silva and his partner Jessica Ring of Lowell, Erica Perez and her husband, Ruben Perez of Lowell and Derek Silva of Lowell; his former wife and dear friend, Nativdade (Pereira) Silva of Lowell; his brother Jose Silva and his wife Beth of Hudson, NH. His grandchildren, Jaiden Mercado, Ryan Silva and Caleb Perez, all of Lowell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to attend his calling hours on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852 (978-458-6816).
Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, May 16th, at 8 a.m. the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell at 9 am. Sid will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
