Rebecca “Becky” (Gorden) Nutley of Marshfield passed away peacefully at home in the comfort of her family and friends after a long, courageous nine-year battle with cancer on May 11th 2023 at the age of 47.
Wife of Mark Nutley and loving mother to her two boys Adam and Sean Nutley, Becky is also survived by her parents Dennis and Nancy Gorden of Utica, NY, brother Scott and his wife Michelle Gorden. Her nieces and nephews, Tara McCarthy, Michael White, Brendan Nutley, Keianna Nutley, Zachary Gorden and Allison Gorden.
Becky was born in New Hartford, NY and graduated from Utica Senior Academy. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Albany before receiving her Masters of Education in School Counseling from Boston College.
Becky, a longtime school counselor and head of North Quincy High School’s Student Support Services, was admired for the care and guidance she provided to the hundreds of families and staff throughout her career. Becky was an invaluable member of the Quincy Public Schools community for 24 years and also worked as a counselor at Point Webster Middle School and Quincy Evening High School prior to returning to North Quincy High School.
For those lucky enough to have known her, Becky was always a positive person with an empathetic ear. Regardless of what she was enduring in her personal health circumstances, Becky managed to make every person in her presence feel seen, heard, understood and loved. She was always quick with a smile, willing to give a hug (if really needed), and full of timeless catch phrases; like: "I haven't seen you in a month of Sundays!" Or, "I'll have that taken care of in two shakes of a lamb's tail." You left her presence feeling better, stronger and grateful for her friendship.
After being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, Becky dedicated herself and rallied her “Brigade” in supporting the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and Dana-Farber Cancer Center with their efforts to develop more treatments and find a cure. The care and support of the team at Dana-Farber Cancer Center on Yawkey-7 made the difficult treatments more bearable for Becky. The encouragement she received gave her the hope she needed to continue her courageous battle.
After Becky’s diagnosis she and her friends started Becky’s Brigade, which served as the team name for both the MMRF 5k Road Race and the team of loved ones supporting Becky and her family throughout her treatment. There are no words to adequately thank the many family members, friends and colleagues for their generosity, devotion and companionship throughout Becky’s illness; especially the Marshfield, Quincy, and Hingham communities.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester St. South Boston, MA. 02127. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at St. Christine Catholic Church, 1295 Main St. Marshfield, MA.
