Kerry C. James, 60, of Irwin County, Georgia, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Frank Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Josh Bowles officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Kerry was born June 11, 1962, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to Jo Ann Smith White and the late J.H. “Bill” James. He was a 1981 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He worked for 10 years as a conductor and engineer for CSX Railroad. Kerry worked in maintenance at West Fraser in Fitzgerald. He enjoyed riding his buggy and was an avid outdoorsman, whether hunting or cutting grass. He would do anything for anybody and was a very caring and giving person. Kerry’s joy was found in serving others, from hosting bird shoots to cooking for gatherings as well as rescuing animals. He loved his dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Ewing James of Irwin County; his mother, Jo Ann White of Fitzgerald; a brother, Kenny & Melody James of Irwin County; a sister, Angie & Tommy Newton of Fitzgerald; and his beloved nieces and nephews: Ashley Switzer & Andrew, Josey Day & Grace and Riley, Logan James, Devon Ewing & John Green, Dustin Ewing, Blake Lott & Aubrey, Sarah Tucker & Eric, Courtney Ewing, Amanda James, Kyle Newton & Genny, Jennifer Ellington & Tony, and Josh Warren & Samantha. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Avery & Verlion Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society, 106 Lions Park Road, Fitzgerald, GA 31750, to honor Kerry’s love of animals.
