Annette M. (Gastall) Hassie-DeGrafft, age 96, of Norton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Alliance Health at Maples in Wrentham. She was born in Buffalo, New York on July 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Peter S. and Alice (Marsh) Gastall. Annette was the beloved wife of the late Thomas V. Hassie to whom she was married for over 50 years at the time of his death in 1995. In 1998 Annette was married to Ralph E. DeGrafft until his death in 2001. She attended Fosdick-Masten Park High School in Buffalo, NY.
Through the years she worked various part-time jobs as a waitress, seamstress, in-home health care provider, pharmacy clerk, and as a bakery employee where she became interested in cake decorating; eventually becoming a wedding cake decorator. She could always be found humming and singing while going about here day.
Annette devoted much time to raising her three children while being a member of The Norton Garden Club, serving as a Girl Scout Leader and volunteering at the Norton Elementary School Library. She enjoyed many wonderful years traveling throughout the country, as well as summer camping trips throughout New England with the Jolly Foxes camping group.
Annette was predeceased by her sister Alice Lynch of Florida, and her brothers Fred Gastall of Buffalo and Lawrence Gastall of Georgia. She is survived by her sons Thomas P. Hassie and his wife Dianne of Bridgewater, MA and Paul A. Hassie and his wife Susan of Gainesville, FL, and her daughter Lynnette M. Weir and her husband Timothy of Norton, MA. She leaves her beloved grandchildren: Erin Church and husband Andrew; Denise Fillis and husband Raymond; Lauren Hawat and husband Philip; Carolyn Garvin and husband Paul; Dalton Weir and his wife Meghan; Ami J. Hassie; and Michael O’Clair, as well as nine great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial gathering on Sunday, July 9th from 1:00-5:00 P.M. at the Fillmore-Nason VFW Post 8049, 33 Summer Street in Norton, one day before her 97th birthday.
