Robert S. Jop

TEWKSBURY: Robert S. Jop, age 75, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, passed away at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on Monday, May 8, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of Carlene (Smeriglio) Jop with whom he celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary on October 6, 2022 and the late Barbara “Elaine” (Demers) Jop, who passed away on August 15, 2011.
Born in Lowell on September 30, 1947, he was the son of the late Stanley J. Jop and the late Josephine M. (Kozubal) Jop.
He attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1965. Bob later attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he received his bachelor’s degree.
In 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War Era aboard the U.S.S. Holland. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged from active duty on December 4, 1968.
Bob was a longtime communicant and member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Church community and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 10877.
Bob loved spending time and socializing with family (especially his cousin, Mary Cassano) and friends.
In addition, he was an avid golfer and treasured the numerous golf outings he played at Trull Brook Golf Course in Tewksbury. He also enjoyed following the New England Patriots as well as fishing.
Besides his wife Carlene, family members include his brother, Gary J. Jop and his late wife Carol (Fitzgerald), of Tewksbury: his nephew, Gary W. Jop, of Raleigh, NC: three stepchildren, Donna Godwin and her partner, Zack Khaleo, of Methuen, Joseph Godwin, of Salisbury, and the late Aimee (Demers) Thibodeau: two step grandsons, David Godwin, of Methuen and Joseph Godwin, of Seabrook, NH: two step great grandchildren, Nikolas and Ember Godwin, of Seabrook, NH: his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Gail Smeriglio, of Methuen. He also leaves many extended family members including his cousin, Mary Cassano, and friends.
Calling hour Tuesday, May 16th, from 10-11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover, immediately followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at the church. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation at www.curemeso.org
