David M. Burns, 79, died peacefully on Sunday May 7. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet M. (Smith) Burns.
Raised in Fairhaven and Abington, he was the son of the late Milton and Jane (Mitchell) Burns.
David graduated from Abington High in 1961 and later Northeastern University in 1976. He also served in the United States Navy from 1964-1970.
He is survived by his children, Tami Swenson and her husband Todd of Abington, and Russell Burns and his girlfriend Jillian of Providence, RI. He is also survived by his three grandchildren who he adored, Michael, Ashley, and Kaitlyn, as well as his great grandson, Colton. He was the brother of Robert Burns, William Burns and Maryann Haen. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
After working for many years at Westinghouse, Johnson & Johnson and Chadwickâs of Boston he settled into retirement and got to spend time enjoying his family, fishing, boating and rooting on his favorite Boston sports teams.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday May 12 at 10am in the United Church of Christ, 10 Bedford St. Abington. Burial at a later date, will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday May 11 from 4-7pm at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
