Paul Doherty, 82, of Dartmouth, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Margaret (Haberger) Doherty.
Mr. Doherty was born in Fall River, son of the late John Doherty, Sr. and the late Mary (Orr) Doherty, and his brother, the late John Doherty, Jr. He had been a longtime resident of Westport. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, he worked as a driver for Amerigas.
Paul found pleasure and joy in many things, his small bits of paradise: walks on Horseneck, the Canal, the Westport River, a place he grew up on and would often frequent throughout his life. An avid treasure hunter, he loved to scour the beach with his metal detector for treasures and sea glass. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing old frames and ornate wooden boxes. His favorite pastime was listening to the Oldies with his dear friend Bruce.
Affectionately known as "Digger," Paul was a "unique antique" and "a piece of work." Beloved by his family and friends, he will be greatly missed. As we remember him he would want us to appreciate the little things, each other, and like the waves of his beloved Westport, to keep living forward.
Survived by his wife, daughter Carol Cole and her husband David of Westport, grandson Matthew Cole, daughter Karen Valley and her husband Bill of St. Augustine, FL, stepdaughter Shannon Kafka and her husband Adam of Weymouth, stepdaughter Meghan Peebles of Dartmouth, and dear friends Bruce Thompson, and Ronnie and Sharon Moniz.
Arrangements are private.
