Leona Mae Drew, 96, of Derry, NH, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, in Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. She was born on May 1, 1927, in Allegan, MI, a daughter of Lloyd and Jessie (Waite) Drew.
Leona is known for her love of God’s Word, the Bible. After graduating from Moody Bible Institute, she was a Rural Bible Teacher traveling northern New England teaching after-school Bible Clubs. She and her longtime sister-in-Christ, Almira Baston, led the girls camp at Rumney Bible Conference for many years.
After Rumney, they transitioned to teaching at the Highland-Goffe’s Falls School in Manchester, NH. Leona retired from Highland-Goffe’s Falls after teaching there over twenty years.
After her retirement, Leona led a weekly Bible Study at her home for thirty years up to the time of her death. The care of many in the study made it possible for her to continue to live in her home, especially the help of Linda Larson.
She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Jenison, Shari Miller and husband, Gord, Barb Schwartz; sister-in-law, Marilyn Drew, all of Michigan. Leona is predeceased by her brother, David Drew and her sister, Joyce Taminga. She was a special aunt to her adopted Chandler family.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 am at the Calvary Bible Church, 145 Hampstead Rd., Derry, NH. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the Church. The burial will be in Floral View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Grandville, MI on Friday, May 19, 2023.
