ROWAN, Ann Stewart of Yarmouth Port formerly of Naples, FL, Needham, and Framingham, April 29, 2023. Loving mother of Roland Stewart Jr. and his wife Karyn of Mashpee, David Stewart of West Yarmouth, and the late John Erwin Stewart and Sally A. Marsceill. Grandmother of Roland III and Tyler Stewart, John Stewart, and Bradley, Nickolas, and Stewart Marsceill. Great-grandmother of Tucker, Austin, Duncan, Zoey, and Ramona. Sister of the late Eliose Seifert.
Ann spent most of her early life in Framingham. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Boston and was the first President of the Alumnae in 1948. She then graduated from Anna Maria College and Boston University (M.Ed). She married Roland Stewart and with their four children lived in Newton, Needham, and Cape Cod. After the death of Roland Stewart she married Paul G. Kamp and later in her life Dr. Paul Rowan.
Ann taught in Framingham, Dedham, and Newton Schools. She also taught in the Massachusetts Correctional Institution in Framingham. She continued her professional career teaching at Cardinal Cushing College, Regis College, and Boston University.
Volunteer work was important to Ann and she spent many years in the Residents Encounter Christ program at the Barnstable Jail. She continued to volunteer at the Naples Jail as an assistant to the Chaplin. She was a speaker at many community events in both Naples and Cape Cod. She spoke on abuse violence and forgiveness. She was an Ecumenical Minister at the Cape Cod Hospital, St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and St. William Church in Naples.
Ann was on the Board of the Sunshine Home for Unwed Mothers in Naples and headed up a chapter for Parents of Murdered Children in Cape Cod and Naples. Her interest in Catholic Education was the reason she was involved with volunteer work at Ave Maria University. She was on the Board of the Founders at the University and worked diligently to raise funds for student tuition and the building fund. She was a volunteer with the Guardian Children Program (Guardian ad Litem) with the State of Florida.
A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, 1382 Highland Ave., Needham on Wednesday, May 10 at 10:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ann’s memory to the charity of your choice.
