Walter Gumpper, 97, formerly of Derry, NH passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. Born January 15, 1926 in West Chester, PA, and grew up in Phoenixville, PA. Walter resided in PA for most of his life before moving to Birch Heights in Derry and more recently Warde Health Center in Windham, NH.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the Midway and Miami in the Pacific theater. After his Navy service, he moved with his family to Reading, PA. His working career was in purchasing in the steel industry; rising to be the Purchasing Agent for Birdsboro Steel.
Walter enjoyed time spent with family and friends and was known for hosting Christmas Eve open houses for many years. He enjoyed golf and was a lifelong golfer.
He is survived by his children, Ann and husband Ken of Londonderry, Rob and wife Diane of Romney, WV and Jean and husband Michael of Woburn, MA, as well as ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ann Mildred.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Phoenixville, PA. Services will conclude with burial in the St Ann Parish Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
