Michael L. Turner of Jamaica Plain, died on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the age of 80 from Pancreatic Cancer after a diagnosis in March. He passed away with strength and faith and courage. Michael met the love of his life, Solveig Eriksson at a United Nations party in New York City in 1967 and they were married for over 50 years until her passing. An educator always, linguist, peacemaker in a time of racial strife, youngest and last Principal of Cambridge High and Latin; Boston District 4 Superintendent; leader in the Black Political Task Force; adored and inspirational teacher. He loved to learn and brought light to the world, filled hearts and minds with inspiration and made friends everywhere he lived, walked, golfed, bicycled, cross country skied, kayaked, canoed or traveled. Michael will be lovingly remembered by daughter Marjut (Jonathan) Herzog, grandchildren Eliana and Sasha, sisters Sharon Batson (Chris) and Nona Craft, his nephews & nieces in America, Finland, and Sweden, his many cousins, his Cedarwood Road Neighbors and “Grandkids,” and friends around the world. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury on Friday, May 12th at 11am.
