William “Bill” R. Daoust, 80, of Cherry Valley passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 27th at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus after a five-year courageous battle with cancer and other long-term illnesses. He leaves his wife, Dorothy J. (Morris) Daoust, with whom he would have celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary on May 6th. He also leaves his son, Kevin W. Daoust, and his wife, Christine of Cherry Valley; a brother, John “Jack” Daoust, and his wife, Jo Anne of Moosup, CT; five grandchildren, Jared, Collyn, Nolan, Brielle, and Joseph; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his son, Brian, and a brother, Albert.
Bill was born in Ware, the son of Albert and Doris (Lumb) Daoust. Bill graduated from Leicester High School and earned an associate's degree from Worcester Junior College. Bill worked as an engineer for many years at various local companies, including Morgan
Construction, Neles Jamesbury, and Heald Machine. He was a skilled carpenter and took great pride in his work and creations. A great dad, he spent his younger years as a Boy Scoutmaster of local Boy Scout Troup 443 and as a Leicester Little League coach. After retirement, he also worked for the Senior Center in Leicester and the Leicester Police Department. Bill loved gardening most of all and spending time with family. He took great pride in his landscaping skills around the home he built and shared with his family. Besides gardening, Bill had many hobbies as well, such as creating stained glass, birdhouses, and reading. William loved visiting with his neighbors.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 4th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be held at a later date. Flowers may be sent. Perennials that are suitable for planting in the family’s home gardens are encouraged.
