Eleuterio Simonelli, 85

Eleuterio “Al” Simonelli, age 85, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine C. (Tocci) Simonelli, to whom he was wed for forty-eight years at the time of her death on May 29, 2009.
Born in Arce, Italy on May 29, 1937, he was a loving son of the late Filippo and Agnese (Corsetti) Simonelli.
Al grew up and was educated in Italy. In 1956, at the age of 18, he moved to the United States, first settling in Newton. He later resided in Watertown and Wrentham and for the past twenty-three years, proudly made his home in Mansfield.
Prior to retiring. Mr. Simonelli was the owner of the former Willowdale Golf Course in Mansfield and a former partner at Main Line Construction, Inc. in East Walpole.
Al was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a member of the Local 4 IUOE Operators Union and a member of the Wrentham Sports Association. He especially treasured times spent with his adoring family and at his home in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. Al was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and will be fondly remembered for his special knack to fix or make just about anything and his patriotism and special love for America.
He is survived by his devoted sons: Mark Simonelli and his wife Tracey of Brookfield and Michael Simonelli and his wife Marie of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of James Simonelli and his partner Maggie, Nathan Simonelli and his wife Nikki, Michael Simonelli, Julia Simonelli and the great grandfather of Connor Simonelli. He was the dear brother of Vincenzo Simonelli of Bourne, Bernardo Simonelli of Italy, Filomena Corsetti of Italy, Maria Corsetti of Italy and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 4th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
