Theodore Sarantos Genakos, 73, Son of the late Theodore Sarantos Genakos and Lucille (Falardeau) Genakos, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital, with his wife Carol A. (McCarthy) Genakos by his side, after a lengthy period of declining health. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Teddy was a lifelong resident of Lowell. He grew up, was educated, and graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1968. Teddy enjoyed bowling, playing tennis, was an avid coin collector, sports enthusiast, especially the New York Yankees and Kansas City Chiefs and Boston Bruins. He coached Centralville Baseball, Little League, and Senior League, and also Dracut Pop Warner Football. Teddy enjoyed chess, professional wrestling, cribbage, spending time with family, and cooking, especially during Greek Easter and Christmas Eve.
Teddy worked at the Bedford VA hospital as a nurse's aid for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement from the VA, he worked at Haffner’s on Dutton Street for over 10 years.
Theo is survived by his wife Carol, and his two sons Kristopher Genakos of Laconia, NH, and Stephen Genakos and his wife Kara of Northwood, NH, and his grandchildren Vanessa, Karson, Grace, and Tyler. He is also survived by his brothers John Genakos and his wife Maureen of Barrington, NH, and George Garabedian and his wife Donna of Lowell, his brother and sisters in-law Pat Texiera, Elizabeth McCarthy, and Edward Jay McCarthy. Teddy is survived by many good friends, his cousins Donna and Paul Cloutier, and his nieces and nephews, including his Godson Shane Genakos, John Genakos, Sammy Genakos, Nic Genakos, and Kelly Hayes.
Teddy was predeceased by his brother Sarantos Genakos and his wife Terry, and his brother-in-law Larry McCarthy.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the local first responders for their assistance, kindness, and dedication through the years.
You are invited to attend his memorial visitation on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 978-458-6816. Following the visitation, his funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the American Heart Association.
