Charlotte Elder passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2023 at the age of 68 with her loving husband William at her side.
She was born to the late Ida (Bennett) and Charles Spencer on February 5, 1955. After graduating Brockton High School, she worked for The Foxboro Company for over 25 years, eventually rising to be one of the first women foremen. She then courageously went back to school and graduated with honors from Quincy College with a degree in Nursing. She went on to work at New England Sinai Hospital before landing at the Thoracic Surgery Floor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she worked until her retirement.
Charlotte will be remembered for her kindness. She genuinely enjoyed helping others. She was an avid supporter of veterans and a member of Rolling Thunder MA Chapter 2, participating in many of their events. She also volunteered for over 20 years for the Pan-Mass Challenge benefiting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Charlotte loved spending time at the beach. She especially looked forward to trips to Kennebunkport, ME in the summer and Freeport, ME in the winter. Ironically, she was not a fan of snow, but she loved anything with snowmen and decorated everything she could with them, including herself. She was a lover of nature and animals, especially butterflies and hummingbirds. She made sure to visit the National Zoo in Washington, DC with her grandchildren whenever she visited them. She enjoyed rooting for all of the sports teams in Boston. Above all, her main passion in life was her family.
Charlotte was the beloved wife of William (Mr. Bill), loving mother of daughters Melissa Elder of Somerset MA and Jennifer Weigle and her husband Kurt of Fairfax, VA, devoted Grammy to grandchildren Christian and Zoe, and caring sister to Bonnie Cooperstein and her husband Barry of The Villages, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and her beloved dog Charlie.
Her funeral will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne, MA on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 11:30am. A celebration of life will be held at a late date.
