Robert R. Comtois, 81, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on April 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, including his wife Muriel of 62 years. Born in Danielson, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph Roland Comtois and Marie (Chabot) Comtois. Robert resided in Westport for most of his life before moving to Dartmouth in 2003.
Robert was a vibrant person who brought laughter and love to anyone he encountered. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Julie's Parish in Dartmouth where he participated daily as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. He also provided communion to patients at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford and remained an active member of the Knights of Columbus as well.
After being a Marine for several years, Robert joined the Massachusetts State Police on June 27, 1964. He retired on December 4, 1985, at the rank of Lieutenant. Following his retirement, he spent his time traveling to various destinations with his loving wife Muriel and enjoying time at home by the water with the family. Sundays were dedicated to family dinner followed by boating or sharing laughs around the dinner table.
Along with his widow Muriel, Robert is survived by his three adoring daughters, Suzanne Levasseur and her husband Gregory from Newtown, CT, Lisa Farnworth from Dartmouth, and Carolyn Pontes and her husband Michael from Dartmouth.
He also leaves behind his only sibling, Paulette Jusseaume from Westport and her 4 children Mark, Danielle, David and Christopher. Robert took great pride in his 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kaitlyn Levasseur, Kyle, Matthew, and Trent Farnworth, and Allyson and Ross Pontes. He was also fortunate to welcome his 2 great grandchildren, Emerson and Ellen into the world on November 25, 2022.
Robert's visitation will be held on Monday May 1, 2023 from 8:45-9:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Mass will be at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
