SWEENEY, John G. of Norwood, formerly of Roslindale and Mission Hill, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023. John is survived by his beloved wife Marylou (Regan) with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Loving father to his two sons, John and his wife Laurie (DiBacco) of Norwood and Steven and his wife Joanna (Morgan) of Roslindale. Devoted Papa to Ava, Samuel, Zoe and Anthony. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Catherine (Murphy), and his sister, Joan (Sweeney) DiPietro and her husband Charles. John was born in Boston on May 10, 1944, graduated from Mission High in 1962, spent 50 years as a proud member of Boston Plasterers & Cement Masons Local 534, and also worked for the MBTA as a mason. After retirement, he spent most of his time with Marylou on the beaches of Wells, Maine and Naples, Florida.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury on Sunday, April 30th from 3-7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, May 1st at 8:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont St. Boston at 10am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
