BUNUAN, Sr. Maria Ignacia S., DSP, SFCC of the Daughters of St. Paul passed away peacefully on April 17, 2023 at home in West Roxbury. Loving sister of Dr. Josefina Bunuan of West Roxbury and Lino Bunuan of New Jersey. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, and her loving friends.
She was born in the Philippines on June 20, 1931. She worked at the Daughters of St. Paul in the Mother House in Rome. She was active in radio broadcasting for the Order in both Italian and English at the Vatican. She wrote several articles about our Blessed Mother and authored two books: A Gentle Woman, Mary to the Filipinos and Lord Make Us an Instrument of Your Peace. Both books were very popular in the Philippines. After 17 years at the Vatican, she came back to Boston and worked as a liaison officer at the office of City Councilor Maura Hennigan. She spent her life spreading the Gospel as a Daughter of St. Paul and later as a Sister of Christian Community. She was active with the Filipino Apostolate of Boston and editor of Lubos, the Filipino newsletter of New England. She organized prayer groups for bible sharing that met once a week in her prayer cell at home. She had been religiously visiting the sick and dying as well as the elderly in both homes and hospitals.
