Rev. F. Quinn Beebe (1927-2023)
Frank Quinn Beebe was born on September 9, 1927 in Ithaca, New York to Rev. Chester C. and Agnes Bertha Elizabeth (Schultze) Beebe. He was the third of their six children and is survived by his younger brothers Lynn and Casey Beebe. He was Captain of his high school baseball team, batting .400, before enlisting at age 18 in the US Army, near the end of WWII. He married Rae in 1948, a marriage that lasted lovingly into its 75th year. By 1954 he had graduated from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, was ordained, was serving two parishes, and he and Rae had four of their eventual six children.
In 1957 the family moved from Albion, New York to Santa Ana, California where Quinn pastored the Richland Ave. and St. Luke’s Methodist churches. He went to serve United Methodist churches in Monterey Park, Palms, Culver City, La Jolla, Ventura, Chula Vista and Whittier. On retirement, he and Rae settled in Ventura. Their home was a base for their travels and golf outings, as well as a center for family gatherings.
Their six children are Jed (Diane), Dawn (Kareem), Rev. Dr. James Wesley (Belinda), Dale (Darryl), Jason (Patricia), and Darlene (Dan). Daughter Dale died on March 18, 2023, and Quinn followed on April 12, 2023 at home in Ventura. Quinn leaves 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Throughout his life Quinn loved the game of golf (with five lifetime hole-in-ones), and was a strong competitor in tennis, pool and softball as well. He was a Rotarian, and a former President of the Los Angeles Council of Churches. He wrote poetry collected in a book entitled “Quintessence” (available at blub.com) and occasional newspaper columns. He was a champion of social justice causes, and a servant of Jesus Christ. But most of all he loved his wife Rae, and the ever-widening circle of his family and friends. His was a life of love and commitment. A service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on April 28, 2023, at the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR.org).
