Obituary

Claudia A. (Gross) Lavoie, 68, of New Bedford, peacefully passed away following a brief illness on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at home with family by her side. She was the wife of the late Norman R. Lavoie, Sr.

Mrs. Lavoie was born in Taunton, daughter of the late Leland and Myrtle (Pittsley) Gross and had been a longtime resident of New Bedford. Prior to retirement, she worked as an inspector for Precix and had also worked in the kitchen at Sacred Heart Home, both of New Bedford. She enjoyed going for walks and was very proud of her Wampanoag Native American heritage.

Survivors include her son: Norman R. Lavoie, Jr. of New Bedford; her daughter: Jo-Ann Escobar and her husband Anthony, Sr. of New Bedford; 2 sisters: Bonnie Young of Taunton and Beth Lee of WA; 8 brothers: Scott Gross of New Bedford, Steven Gross of Falmouth, Bruce Gross of Plymouth, Gary Gross of New Bedford, Mark Gross of New Bedford, Gale Gross of New Bedford, Thomas Perkins and Douglas Gross of New Bedford; brother-in-law: Raymond Lavoie and his wife Sherry of Wareham; 11 grandchildren: Roxanne, Kirsten, Steven Jr., Cameron, Brandon, Anthony Jr., Austin, Maelynn, Michael Norman, Norman III and Zoey; 4 great grandchildren: Jayden, Karter, Kaelyann and Dylan; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Rachel M. Lavoie, sister of the late Sheila Gross and Joyce Gross and godmother of the late Roger Lavoie.

Chapel service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford, MA 02745 to assist the family with final expenses.
