David W. “Big Dave” Hawkes, 67, a longtime resident of North Billerica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Donna (Coyne) Hawkes for over 40 years.
David was born on April 28, 1955 in Woburn to the late Harold A. Hawkes Sr. and the late Claire A. (Brabant) Hawkes and was raised with his brothers in
Tewksbury. He and his wife raised their kids in North Billerica, where he had
resided for the last 40 years.
David enjoyed fishing, Harley Davidson motorcycles, good food, getting ice
cream, and listening to music, like one of his favorites, Tom Petty. He loved
watching movies and shows, especially the “Three Stooges”, He loved pitbulls,
and had the biggest and loving heart, for his kids and Grandkids. He only had a
handful of jokes but was sure to tell them at every gathering guaranteed to make
everybody laugh and for over 20 years, he worked as a machine operator at the
Haartz Corporation in Acton before retiring to spend the rest of his years enjoying all of his hobbies, spending quality time with his wife and his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children: David Hawkes Jr., his
wife Amanda of Billerica, and Tara Hawkes of Los Angeles, CA; his six
grandchildren: Shane Simbeck Jr., David Hawkes III, Nevaeh Simbeck, Jakob
Hawkes, Kevin Foley, and Chase Hawkes; as well as an additional grandchild
expected soon. He is also survived by his two brothers: Bobby Hawkes, his wife
Lynne of Tewksbury, and Gary Hawkes and his wife Denise of Tewksbury.
David was predeceased by his brothers: Harold Hawkes, Dennis Hawkes, and
Brian Hawkes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, April 20,
2023 from 4pm to 7pm at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street,
Tewksbury, MA 01876, (978) 851-2061. A funeral service will be held in the funeral
home on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 10am, followed by a procession to the
Tewksbury cemetery.
