Valentine S. Galang Jr.
Valentine S. Galang Jr., 79, passed away April 12 in Ventura after complications from a fall.
He was born Sept. 2, 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating from Farrington High School in the Kalihi neighborhood, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served four years.
Val – Junior to his family – met his wife Josephine of 55 years through Air Force buddies. His time in the military led to a career in electronics and a lifetime of tinkering on computers, cars and other gizmos and gadgets.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Cal Poly, Pomona and worked in the defense and space industries. He and Jo raised their family in Alta Loma.
Val was an avid runner, book lover and green thumb. In retirement, Val and Jo took road trips throughout California and Nevada. In recent years, they spent increasing time in Ventura.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he leaves behind his wife Josephine; children Valerie Aguerre (Juan), Stacie (David Livingstone), Timothy (Tracy) and Edwin (Sophie); grandchildren Juan Jr., Elizabeth and Olivia and siblings Richard, Babette and Patrick Galang.
He was predeceased by his parents Valentine Sr. and Louise Galang and sisters Carolyn Nakasato and Marilyn Endrulat.
Donations may be made in his memory to a local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or the National Blood Clot Alliance.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Thursday evening May 4, 2023 from 4 to 8pm in the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm in the Funeral Home's Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 10am in Mission Basilica San Buenaventura, 211 E. Main Street, Ventura. Interment will then follow in Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura. A reception to follow. Casual, aloha attire.
