John J. "Beansie" Charbonnier, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his home in Charlestown. He was 95 years of age.
Beansie was born in Boston on February 11, 1928, a son of the late Augustus "Gus" Charbonnier and Julia (Ring) Charbonnier. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Beansie enlisted into the United States Navy on June 6, 1945 and served his country with courage and honor during World War II while serving on the USS Alcor in Okinwa, Japan. He was honorably discharged on August 9, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Beansie began working for the United States Postal Service and retired as a Chief Dispatcher following many years of dedicated service.
Family and friends were always paramount in Beansie's life which he enjoyed immensely, and when his 2 granddaughters Megan and Sara lost their mother Janice to cancer at a young age, Beansie took great pride helping them grow up to the women they are today.
Beansie along with his pals Sugar Whelan and Al Jarasitis was instrumental in the foundation of the Milt Schmidt Hockey Program in Charlestown many years ago that gave the kids of Charlestown the opportunity to play hockey for the inhouse program at the Charlestown skating rink on Saturday mornings and then progress onto one of the travel teams. He enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee for many years and spending summers with the Charbonnier clan at Rexhame Beach in Marshfield. Beansie was a Lifetime member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboy's Association and St. Francis De Sales Parish.
Beansie is the beloved husband of 70 years to Marilyn C. (Wheeler) Charbonnier. He is the devoted father of Richard "Rick" Charbonnier and his partner Paula Aiello. He is the loving and doting Grandfather to Megan Charbonnier and Sara Charbonnier. He is the beloved father-in-law of the late Janice Charbonnier. He is the beloved son of the late Julia (Ring) Charbonnier, Augustus "Gus" Charbonnier and Helen (Yarasitis) Charbonnier. He is the beloved brother of Patricia Gundy and her husband William, Thomas Charbonnier and his wife Leslie, Linda Kerrigan and her husband James, James Charbonnier and his wife Kathy, Maryann Ranahan and her husband Kevin, Joseph Charbonnier and his wife Kathy and the late Judy Lucas and her husband Jack, Richard "Red" Charbonnier, Joan Carney and Michael Charbonnier. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Beansie's Memorial Mass and Celebration Of Life will be announced at a later date. His burial at The Veteran's Administration National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
