Patrick A. Newport, age 77, of Taunton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Morton Hospital in Taunton, surrounded by his adoring family. He was the devoted husband of Chikki (Minerva) Newport. The two had a loving relationship for over 50 years and were about to celebrate their Golden Anniversary on April 20th.
Born in Boston and raised in Avon, he was the son of the late James and Helen (Buck) Newport. He went to school in Avon where he attended the Vocational Program and started his journey in the construction trades. As a young man, he spent many hours caring for and working with horses and ponies at the Dorbill Ranch and his love for animals continued into his later years.
He started his HVAC company in the basement of their Brockton home and when his family and company grew, they moved to Mansfield where he raised his family and continued to run P & C Heating and Air Conditioning for 32 years prior to his retirement. After retirement he worked as a driver for Taunton Motorized Carriage during the pandemic.
Patrick will be remembered as a gentle, hardworking, patient man who was loved by everyone. He was a mentor to those learning around him, was an honest and well-respected businessman and was described as the rock of the family by his siblings. He gushed with pride over the accomplishments of his own children, enjoyed many years spent at their vacation home in North Conway and adored his grandkids who were the love of his life. Pat knew how to have fun in the woods on the three wheelers, on the snow and ice on the snow mobiles and can be remembered on the dance floor with a bloody Mary or Margarita in his hand.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Michael T. Newport and his wife Debby of Taunton and Nikki P. Archer and her husband Frank of Attleboro; two grandchildren, Travis Newport and Gabriella Archer; two step grandchildren, Tristan and Darian Archer; his beloved yellow lab, Spencer; his sister, Janice Newport of Avon; his brother Jim Newport and his wife Gladys of Florida; his dear brother-in-law, Michael Peter Minerva; his niece, Elena; as well as many more family and friends.
Patrick’s visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 9-11:30 am, with a funeral service beginning at 11:30 am, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. Interment will follow in Rock Ridge Cemetery, East Street, Sharon.
