With great sorrow, the Scothorn and Landry families announce the passing of their beloved Alex.
Alexandra Danielle Landry, 29, died unexpectedly on April 06, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Alex was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA, and was a graduate of Westlake High School and McNeese State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. At the time of her death, she was completing her Master's degree in Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
From an early age, Alex was a dedicated thespian and member of The Lake Charles Children’s Theatre Company, the Westlake High School theater group, and performed in several plays at MSU. Alex discovered her love of teaching during the summers of her middle and high school years while teaching acting to children through the Summer Arts Camp.
Alex had a lively adventurous spirit, delightful humor, and exceptional artistic talent. She developed a love for art, books, animals and writing at an early age, often combining all of them to create funny characters with illustrated stories. Alex always carried a journal or sketchbook. She enjoyed hanging out at coffee shops and bars with her friends but didn’t mind going out alone because she could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and turn a cocktail napkin into a work of art. Many strangers she encountered walked away with a new friend and an amazing portrait of themselves. Most of her days were devoted to oil painting, creating beautiful works of fine art on large canvases in her studio at the Star Store Campus in Downtown New Bedford. She loved living in the heart of the city, commuting on foot, taking in the sites, and embracing all the random, unique people and events she encountered along her way.
Alexandra was predeceased by her father, Daniel Aaron Landry Jr., and grandparents Elmeda Ann Brown, Raymond L. Simmons, and Marilyn Cerniglia Turman. She is survived by her loving family, parents Stacey Christina and Robert Joseph Scothorn of Alexandria, LA, brother Raymond Zachary Brown of Lake Charles, LA, grandparents Dan and Nettie Landry (Nonnie and Poppy) of Moss Bluff, LA, grandmother Maggie McGuffee (Gree) of Katy, TX, grandfather Mark Louis Morrison of Mesa, AZ, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A candlelight vigil will be held Monday night April 10, 2023 at 8 pm on the campus of UMass Dartmouth, on the quad, in front of the Claire T. Carney Library.
A service of remembrance in Lake Charles, Louisiana will be announced at a later date.
