SPRINGFIELD – David E. Fitzgerald, 58, of the Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, April 6, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on February 6, 1965, a beloved son of Edward T. and Celia (Mistos) Fitzgerald, both of Springfield. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country during the Grenada Conflict in the United States Navy aboard the USS Independence. He was the owner and operator of Western Mass Masonry in Springfield. He enjoyed fishing, cheering on his New England sports teams, working in his vegetable garden, and was the "Master Chef" of the family. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He will be deeply missed by his cherished dog, Lili. He was a communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield. Besides his parents, he leaves his loving sister, Linda A. Kijek and her husband, Michael, of Springfield; his two dear aunts, Kathleen Fitzgerald of South Hadley and Louise Fitzgerald of Springfield; his dear uncle, Frank Fitzgerald and his wife, Barbara, of Springfield; and his many dear cousins, friends and extended family members. He was predeceased by his four dear uncles, Tommy Mistos, and Joseph, John, and Maurice Fitzgerald; and his three dear aunts, Ann Walsh, Mary Tzoumas, and Georgia Jacobson. His family will receive friends on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service to be officiated by David's lifelong friend, Reverend Robert Gentile, to be held at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will be private.
