Marty and his wife Barbara (McKay) Loftus shared 64 1/2 years together in loving marriage. He was Dad to Barbie Anne Loftus, and Dad to Martin "Dusty" Loftus and his wife Michele, who he loved like a daughter.
He was Papa to Sean Martin Loftus. He retired just so he would not miss a minute of watching him become the strong, confident and caring man he is today. Papa could not be prouder. He was so proud of all his family, including Teddy.
Marty had an extended family which included Coulombe, Sheehan and Field families. Whom he loved being with on holidays and special family events. He loved them like they were his own.
Marty was the proud son of Agnes and Bartholomew Loftus of Southie. He was the loving brother of Mary Loftus, Agnes (Loftus) Frieburger and her husband Hank, Bartley Loftus and his wife Bonnie, Thomas Loftus and his wife Mary, Timothy Loftus and his wife Margaret, and John Loftus and Judy. On the McKay side of the family he was the loving brother in law to Sis Sutherland and her husband Ray, Buddy McKay and his wife Claire, Sandy Allen and her husband Dennis, and Johnny McKay and his wife Pat. Marty had too numerous Loftus and McKay nieces, nephews and cousins to mention individually, but not forgotten.
He retired from the Massachusetts Trial Court after 40 plus years. He was the Elevator Supervisor, and loved driving to all the Courts across the state. He had life long friendships and shared many conversations and phone calls with Richie Belmonte, Joe Dennehey, Tommy Kinneavey, Frank Nosera, Frank Levy and Jon Loftus.
Marty was proud to be from South Boston for 80 years and always asked everyone he met where are you from and shared stores of the Southie long ago. He loved camping, and making memories with his family. But everything stopped so he could see Sean's hockey games. He was so proud that Sean was Captain of the Sea Captains, and the leadership he displayed. He also never missed watching the Boston Bruins with his family, and loved a good Marchand check, goal or fight.
Martin Thomas Loftus, Sr died at the age of 84. He told us he had a good life and it was time. He fought a courageous battle for many years against COPD and heart disease and never complained.
Marty Loftus was never a big ceremony or flower guy. It was his wish that there be no services. It was also Marty's wish that in lieu of flowers, please pile your friends and family in your car, throw away the map and GPS and drive till you hit the sunshine. This is so true because he loved getting behind the wheel of his car, and in the drop of a hat going on a trip with his family and friends showing them the sites across the United States and Canada. He even drove cross country and back with Mom in 2002 to experience all wonders big and small.
Until we meet again, know that My Love Marty, Dad and Papa will not be forgotten and will forever be in our hearts. We will hold close the memories we shared together in your lifetime.
