Ronald A. Wilson of Medway, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on March 30, 2023, in the comfort of the home he built with his devoted wife, Sandy (Murphy) Wilson, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of Medway, Ron graduated from Medway High School in 1954, and then attended and graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in mechanical engineering. With intellectual curiosity matching his mathematical and mechanical knowhow, Ron went on to work at MDL (Microwave Development Laboratories), in Needham, for over 50 years where he invented and patented parts and components for projects ranging from the Niagara Falls hydroelectric project to the US Space Station.
Ron served the town for many years as an elected commissioner on Medway's Water-Sewer Board, after serving on the finance committee for several years, followed by his service on the town's first Capital Improvement Planning Committee.
The longest standing member of the Medway Village Church (a member since 1954), Ron's love & passion for singing was evident in his Barbershop Quartet experience and membership in the church's choir as the most “vocal” tenor, baritone, or bass. His time in the church's music ministry also included a brief stint as Choir Director.
Ron’s love of tinkering in his workshop led to his interest in stereo speakers of which he built several sets. Later in life Ron built and repaired his own golf clubs, as golf was a hobby he developed as he got older and continued to enjoy in retirement. He was also a huge fan of NASCAR and would spend weekends watching his favorite driver Jeff Gordon drive around in endless circles!
Ron was an avid angler who fished many of the local ponds and rivers for trout and bass, and, unfortunately, sunfish (kivers) - these were always thrown back. The trout and bass, however, always came home for supper.
An enthusiastic gardener, Ron was always trying to grow and experiment with various kinds of vegetables to find the freshest and tastiest, especially tomatoes, winter squash, green beans, and hot & spicy peppers. Ronny strongly believed it was never too early to start growing seedlings indoors even if it was January and there was two feet of snow outside!
In addition to his wife Sandy, Ron leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Krista and David Frost of Medway, and daughter Kerrie Wilson and grandson Justin of Hebron, Connecticut. He is also survived by his sisters Jacqueline Konowitz of Wrentham, and Linda Hill of Dixmont, Maine, plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Private interment to follow at a soon to be determined date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory toward the restoration of the Medway Village Church’s historic organ or toward the restoration of the church's bell & clock tower.
