Obituary

William “Bill” Everett Lewis Jr., 81, formerly of Natick, MA, passed peacefully on April 6, 2023, at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton, MA of Alzheimer's disease.

Born on August 8, 1941, to the late William and Bertha (Warren) Lewis, he spent his childhood in Weymouth, MA and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1959. Voted “Most Intellectual” by his classmates, he was a Merit Scholar and recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. After high school, he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute studying Physics.

William had a long and successful career in Software engineering, the majority spent at Honeywell, Inc. before eventually retiring from Lucent Technologies. Along with his former wife Gail, he raised his daughters in East Bridgewater, MA. He coached softball, chaperoned youth group outings, and taught girl scouts binary code and how to grow sprouts. A music lover, he especially enjoyed his time as a member of the East Bridgewater Music Parents and attending his daughters’ many band concerts, choral concerts, and plays.

William was known for being passionate in his beliefs, his sense of humor, taking shortcuts and telling quick stories that were neither short nor quick, being unable to end a phone conversation, his “juice jar” and parking his dad’s car perfectly sideways that one time when he shouldn’t have been driving.
William believed in the importance of being healthy in mind and body. A long-time runner, he remained active in his later years, often walking to a nearby park to sit and look at the Charles River. He enjoyed the outdoors and travel, making several trips to Fiji over the years.

William was never one to do the typical thing and marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a student of many different religions and philosophies throughout his life. Finally settling on and finding happiness as a devotee of Avatar Adi Da Samraj.

William is survived by his daughters, Lisa Lewis of East Bridgewater, MA, and Angela Domer and her husband Tim of Derry, NH; his sisters Alice Avery of Plymouth, MA, Elaine Messina of Weymouth, MA, and Dorothy Adams of Abington, MA; and his former wife and friend, Gail Lewis of East Bridgewater, MA. He was also the proud grandfather of Alexander Domer and Jack Domer of Derry, NH and loving Uncle Everett to numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother Richard Lewis and grand-nephew Peter Leary.

His family would like to thank his longtime housemates and dear friends, particularly Guy Williamson and his late wife Hilda, for their care and allowing him to remain in his home for as long as possible.
