Obituary

Constance L. (Marcelino) Levasseur, 88, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday April 4, 2023, at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert L. “Bob” Levasseur who also passed away during Easter week of 1973.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George and Constance (Silva) Marcelino, she lived in New Bedford all her life.

A devout Catholic, Connie was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for her service to the Church. Throughout the years, she had been a CCD instructor and sacristan at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, a member of the Couples Club at St. Kilian’s Church, a volunteer at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, and a current parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.

Having raised nine children on her own, Connie spent her years enjoying her many passions in life, making personalized birthday and wedding cakes, creating prom dresses for her grandchildren and family friends, traveling within the US and internationally, dancing, driving her car, and spending time with family and friends. Connie was formerly employed at Denmark’s Pharmacy in New Bedford and Options Hair Salon in Dartmouth.

She is survived by her nine children, Diane Desrosiers and her husband Gerard, Steven Levasseur and his wife Mary, Wayne Levasseur and his wife Eileen, Joanne Gomes and her husband Manuel, Doreen Lacasse and her husband Gregg, Gregory Levasseur and his wife Sue, Denise Levasseur, Paula Levasseur and her husband Edward Sabelawski, and Peter Levasseur and his wife Jennifer; her brother, George Marcelino and his wife Bernadette; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday April 11th at 9:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish at 11 AM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday April 10th from 4-8 PM.
