Obituary


M. Ellen (Towle) Keane, age 90, of Brockton died March 31, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Martin J. Keane. Ellen was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Walsh) Towle and lived in the city for most of her life.

A graduate of Brockton High School, Ellen devoted most of her working career to the city of Brockton. She began working in the Brockton Public Library as a teenager and returned to work there later in life after a brief period of living away from the city. She retired from the Brockton City Clerk’s Office after many years of devoted service to the city.

In her free time, Ellen enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy, going out to breakfast, and spending time with her family and friends.

She will be remembered as a strong, independent woman; a devoted mother; a loving grandmother and aunt; a loyal friend; and a confidante to many who knew her. Her impeccable manners, elegant style, dry wit, intelligence, and quiet nature were treasured hallmarks of her personality.

Ellen was the devoted mother of Beth Keane of N. Easton and Peter Keane and his wife Colleen of S. Easton and cherished grandmother of Brendan and Connor Keane. She was the sister of the late William Towle, John Towle, Robert Towle and Patricia O’Leary and aunt of Maryann and Thomas Sergio, Michael, Mark, Marie and William O’Leary.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) on Monday April 10, 2023 from 5-7pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30am, for a 10:30am Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
