Concetta L. “Connie” (Battaglia) Evangelista, age 99, of Medford passed away at home on Saturday, April 1st. Born and raised in Boston’s West End, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Frances (Fisichella) Battaglia. Connie worked for many years as a seamstress and later worked at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 17 years. After leaving the West End she lived in Melrose before settling in Medford 56 years ago. Connie loved to sew and cook and was very talented at both. She was especially famous for her marinara sauce and fried shrimp which was always in demand! Connie was very much involved in numerous organizations including the Santa Maria Lodge (Son’s of Italy), St. Joseph’s Mother’s Club, Dante Alighieri Society, NARFE, Medford High School Music Department, Camp Fire Girls and PTA.
Connie was the beloved wife of the late Raphael C. “Ralph” Evangelista, Jr. who passed away in 2007, and the devoted mother of Frances Chotkowski and her husband Paul of Mansfield, David Evangelista of Medford and the late Ralphy Evangelista. She was the loving grandmother of Captain Andrew Chotkowski, U.S. Army, and James Chotkowski. Connie was the dear sister of Lucille Fallavollita of Westwood and her late husband Robert, the late Gaetano Battaglia, the late Josephine Condelli and her late husband Joseph, the late Helen Gallagher and her late husband Jack, the late Frances Papazian and her late husband Allen, and the late Jean DiNunzio. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Saturday, April 15th at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family on Friday, 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. As an expression of sympathy contributions may be sent in Connie’s name to a charity of One's choice.
