Kimberly Rose Wanzo, age 55, a resident of the Seven Hills Group Home in Groton, formally of Tewksbury and Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lahey Medical Center on Thursday evening, March 30th, 2023 after years of bravely battling numerous health issues.
Kimberly was born in Boston on February 3, 1968, the daughter of Roger and Rose Wanzo. Kim was later raised in Tewksbury by her foster mother, the late Manelva “Nellie” Houston.
Kimberly attended the Middlesex Special Education Collaborative. Kimberly spent many fun days and years with her friends and support team of Incompass (formerly LifeLinks). Kimberly was a bright light who loved many. She was an Auntie to many in her shared living years with Gordon, Bea, Florence and their children and grandchildren. She loved playing with the children and attending their special events (sports, school, etc). She helped them to grow and flourish and also learn about accepting and loving those who are of different abilities. Kimberly loved music, church, vibrant clothing, her culture, being outdoors, and life. She knew how to live life to its fullest and she did so right up to the very end. Kimberly loved Kenny Rogers and one of her favorite songs was “The Gambler”. Kimberly played her last hand on 3/30/23.
She leaves her caregivers and friends at the Seven Hills Group Home in Groton, her guardian and strong advocate, Richard G. Garmil, Esq., and members of her foster family including: Karen Houston, Sharon Chalmere, Veronica Rosado, Karl Houston, Christopher Woodson and the late John Chalmere. Kimberly leaves behind many friends who have fond memories they will keep in their heart.
Family and friends are invited to her calling hour Thursday, April 6th, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by prayers to be offered at 12 Noon. Services will conclude with interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
