SPRINGFIELD – Leonilde R. "Lea" (Botta) DiMaio, 84, of the East Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 31, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Vantage of Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Bracigliano, Italy on March 1, 1939, a beloved daughter of the late Vincenzo and Anna (Moccia) Botta. She was raised and educated in Bracigliano and immigrated to the United States in 1957 at the age of 19 and settled in Springfield. She was employed as a Seamstress for many years and had worked at Carter’s in Springfield. She was a loving mother to her children and enjoyed tending to her garden, cooking, knitting, crocheting and enjoying many wonderful dinners at her son and daughter in law’s restaurant, Cima Restaurant and Chop House, in Wilbraham. She often made exemplary custom window treatments for her family and friends. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, many friends and wonderful neighbors. She leaves her five loving children, Anthony A. DiMaio and his wife, Mindy, of Springfield, Felix S. DiMaio and his wife, Mary, of Springfield, John A. DiMaio and his fiancée, Renee Hanson, of Naples, FL, Michael R. DiMaio and his wife, Sandra, of South Windsor, CT and Loryanna DiMaio of Springfield; her ten cherished grandchildren, Anthony DiMaio, Jr., Nicholas DiMaio and his fiancée, Suzanne Trusz, Adrianna DiMaio, Joseph Bruno and his fiancée, Eman Soufan, Joseph and Arianna DiMaio, Victoria and John DiMaio, Jr. and Olivia and Alexa DiMaio; her former husband, Salvatore DiMaio of Springfield; her five dear siblings, Geremia Botta and Matilda “Clorinda” Santaniello, both of Springfield and Teresa Scala and her husband, Gerardo, Maria Hanke and her husband, Robert, and Armando Botta and his wife, Kathleen, all of Agawam; her dear brother in law, Alphonse DiMaio and his wife, Joyce, of Rhode Island and their children; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear sister in law, Annunziata “Nancy” Botta; her dear brother in law, Giacinto “Gino” Santaniello; and her dear nephew, Armando Botta. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104, (please meet directly at the Church). Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours.
