Obituary

LACONIA ---- Georgetta ‘Georgie’ Wixson, 92, of Ledges Drive, passed away at the Taylor Community in Laconia, on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Georgie was born on September 14, 1930, in Brackenridge, PA, the daughter of Charles and Rose (Mann) Couch.

She was the sixth of seven daughters. She was the first in her family to attend college. She met her future husband, Raymond C. Wixson, at Eastern Baptist College in Philadelphia, PA, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in human development and early childhood education. They were married in 1956 while attending college. In 1961, she moved to Melvin Village on Lake Winnipesaukee where she had her first two sons, Jonathan and Joel. After a few years the family moved to Dover-Foxcroft, ME and her third son, James was born.

During the sixties the family lived in Connecticut but returned to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire in 1976 settling in Gilford. In 1977, she became the Director and head teacher of the Gilford Village Nursery School and touched on the lives of many children until she retired in 1990. She was an active member of the Gilford Community Church and choir until her last few years of life.

She enjoyed sailing on the lake with her husband and her times at the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club where she was a lifetime member. Yearly schooner cruises off the coast of Maine with church family and friends was always a special time. Along with her husband and friends they traveled to Europe, England, the Caribbean and the Holy Land. She loved her time with the “Film Fatales”, a group of close friends that went to the movies and lunch together. The biggest joy in her life came when she was able to spend time with her children and their families. She loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots, but never forgot her Pittsburg Pirates or Steelers.

She enjoyed her five grandchildren, Kallista Wixson, Twyla Trefethen, Hannah Wixson, Jemma Glenn Wixson and Cayden Glenn Wixson.

Georgie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws, Jonathan C. Wixson and Lisa Tibbetts of Meredith, Joel Glenn Wixson and Heather of Kittery, ME, and James C. Wixson and Adeline of Dover, her sister Donna Lanigan of Rome, NY, nephew Thomas Betush, niece Janice Betush Miles of PA, niece Janet Rovnan of PA, niece Charla Clay Miller of LA, nephew David Kirkpatrick, niece Marcia Morris of PA, nephew Ed Morris of NY, niece Carrol Wixson Patterson, niece Cathy Wixson-Maiorano, nephew Allen Wixson, and six great-grandchildren.
