Obituary

George H. Bennett, Jr., 87, of Dartmouth passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023. He was husband of Phyllis M. (Gifford) Bennett, they were married for 47 years.

Born in Providence, RI, son of the late George H. Bennett, Sr. and the late Bernice (Paine) Bennett, he has lived in E. Greenwich, RI and Summerfield, FL prior to moving to Dartmouth. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Prior to retirement, he was a machinist for the former Brown & Sharp Company in N. Kingstown, RI. Mr. Bennett was a lifetime member of the Dartmouth V.F.W., member of the Dartmouth Grange and a member of the Quonset Davisville Navy Yacht Club where he served as Breakfast Chairman. He enjoyed roller skating, serving as a contest judge for many years and was a member of the Lincoln Park Skating Club and the Shoales Skating Club, RI. An avid bowler he also enjoyed making wood carvings of birds and animals. he loved all animals.

Including his wife, he is survived by a step-daughter: Mary G. Hardman of Dartmouth; a daughter: Meloni Karjala of Panama City, FL; 2 sons: Michael Bennett of NC and Martin G. Bennett of Tocoa, GA; a sister: Barbara Martin of Cranston, RI; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Thomas Bennett.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home at 11:30 A.M.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M. prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
