LOWELL John Da Silva, 72, of Lowell, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at Northwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
A son of Eugenia (Silveira) Da Silva of Lowell and late Rogerio Da Silva, he was born May 27, 1950, in Faial, Azores, Portugal and came to the United States in April of 1962.
He made his home in the Back Central Street Neighborhood, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was a member of the Portuguese American Civic League and the Portuguese American Club as well as the Holy Ghost Society.
John loved music and always had to have it turned up loud, drinking beer and listening to music! He worked as a long distance trucker with Allied Trucking during the 1980’s traveling the World in his truck. He also owned the Wine Rack in Chelmsford for more than thirty years before his retirement. He was a soccer fan as well and played as one of the original players for Lowell United when it was first organized. He was also a fan of Benfica.
Besides his dear Mother, his survivors include his son, Thomas DaSilva of Billerica; his brothers, Roger DaSilva and his wife, Maria of Lowell and Roderick ‘Fernando’ Da Silva and his wife, Salete, of Tewksbury; several nieces and nephews, including, Michael DaSilva and his wife, Joanne, Steve DaSilva, Christopher DaSilva and Cassandra DaSilva and her husband, Johnny Arteaga, and his grand nieces and grand nephews, including, Madison, Leah, Jameson, Elias and Emilio.
He was also a step brother of the late Luis Da Silva and the late Ludgerio Da Silva.
On Wednesday, April 5, 2023 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell. His funeral mass will be offered at 12 p.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, followed by procession for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
