John W. Adams, 89, of Windham, NH, died Saturday April 1, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1933 in Ferndale, MI, a son of the late Wayne and Seraphine (Martin) Adams. He had been a resident of Windham for over 19 years, formerly living in Hudson, NH, Tewksbury, MA and Cambridge, MA. John graduated from St. James High School in Ferndale, MI, attended Boston College and later received his master’s degree from Southern NH University. John retired from the US Navy as a Chief Yeoman, after serving 30 years on the Fleet Reserve Association. He participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba in May 1961 on board the USS Boston CAG-1. John retired in 1971 from Old Ironsides. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving 3rd Degree with K of C Council # 5162 in Hudson and 4th degree with K of C Council #1506 in Merrimack, NH. He was also a member of the FRA Branch #338, part of the VFW Post #5791 in Hudson. John enjoyed reading, traveling, and donating blood platelets. He was a member of St. Kathryn Church in Hudson.
He is survived by his three daughters, Virginia C. (Michael) Imboden of Seattle, WA, Tracy A. Russell of Derry, NH, and Cecile W. Adams of Windham; two grandchildren, John S. Pappas and Courtney J. Russell; three great granddaughters, Samantha A. Pappas, Jacqueline M. Pappas, and Abigail Pappas; two great great granddaughters, Gia Cicero and Holly Pappas; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Virginia R. (Miranda) Adams in 2022 and infant son, Anthony Francis Adams.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 13th from 4 - 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 14th at 10:00am in St. Kathryn Church, 4 Dracut Rd., Hudson. Following cremation, he will be buried with Military Honors in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hudson on Monday, April 17th at 11:30am.
