It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our beautiful Kathleen "Kate" (Piers) Keaney of South Boston on March 30, 2023.
Beloved wife of 40 years to Michael Keaney (BPD-C11). Loving mother to Patrick and his husband Wally of Rockland, and Michael and his wife Chelsea of West Roxbury
Kathleen was born on July 19, 1961 to Eleanor (Flaherty) and the late Ronald Piers of South Boston.
Adored “big sister” to Nellie & Frank Geribo of Abington, Sheila & Rick Sherlock of Whitman, Cheryl Piers of South Boston, Ronny & Michele Piers of Whitman, and “sister-cousin” Lynne Buckley of Whitman.
Kathleen was the oldest in “our family of 8,” treasured by her Godmother Auntie Pat (Aunt) and Uncle Frank (UF) Johnson of Whitman.
Granddaughter to the late Alice & Ronald Piers and Margaret & Michael Flaherty of South Boston.
Daughter-in-law and best friend to June (Keaney) Geisler and her husband Ronny,
and the late Leo Keaney of South Boston.
Cherished Sister In-Law to Joe & Lisa Keaney, Kelly McDonald, Kathy and Jack Loan and Tricia & Danny Gillis, all of South Boston.
Kathleen's favorite and greatest role was being called Nana by her 8 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren Shaun, Breana, Aidan, Maclin, Mariana, Kyleighana, Shayleighana & Jaxxon Keaney, and Kiernan & Celiah Keaney-Tilton, and her grand puppies and piggies.
Kathleen grew up in the Old Colony Project on 26 Patterson Way, where she meet the love of her life at the age of 14, Michael, who lived at 32 Patterson Way (his 47 year girlfriend “Kid”).
A dedicated Bruins fan, Bingo player, scratch ticket scratcher and “put my numbers in” lottery player.
Kathleen was loved by so many people, but the love she gave to so many was indescribable, and selfless with unwavering compassion. If you were blessed in life to know Kate, you were one lucky person. But to all her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, they were the lucky ones.
Kathleen’s passing leaves us devastated and heartbroken with a huge void in our hearts that will never be filled. We will undeniably miss her beyond words, but her legacy and love will live through us all.
Visiting hours will be held at The Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston on Tuesday, April 4 from 4-8PM. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Monica's Church on Wednesday at 10:00A.M. Interment services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Kathleen may be honored with donations to the Kaitlyn Keaney Scholarship Fund .
