Helga H. (Verweyen) Fitzpatrick, a longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Rosewood skilled nursing home and rehabilitation in Peabody. She was 87 years of age.
Helga was born in Huthum, Germany on July 25, 1935, a daughter of the late Wilhelm J. Verweyen and Johanna K (Knist). She grew up in Lindenfels, Germany where she attended elementary school until the age of 13 when she immigrated to the United States with her family and adoptive father Anthony Martino. Helga spent the rest of her adolescence in Charlestown where she graduated from Charlestown High School. She worked tirelessly as a meat cutter for the Colonial Meat Packing Company for over 30 years and later as an office clerk for State Steet Bank for 10 years. Helga loved animals and would donate to various humane societies. She loved to dance, but her favorite hobby above all was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helga is the beloved wife of the late Gerald E. Fitzpatrick. She is the devoted mother of Eugene Fitzpatrick and his wife Ann, Steven Fitzpatrick and his fiancé Janet, and Dennis Fitzpatrick and his wife Jacqueline. She is the loving Grandma of James, Bryan, Robert, Colleen, Steven, Kristin, Shawn, Dennis Jr., Daniel, Sydney, and loving Oma to her 8 great-grandchildren. She is the dear sister of Karin McMaster and her husband Larry. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helga's visiting hour on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 12Noon in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be private.
