Robert A. Barbon, 84, of Auburn, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, March 27th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Virginia (Glaser) Barbon. Bob and Gini have four children, Michelle A. Sutherland and her partner, Tim Brosnihan of Leicester, Janelle A. Lamoureux and her husband, Michael of Worcester, Philip A. Barbon and his wife, Kelly of Worcester, and Jeffrey A. Barbon and his wife, Christine of Groton. Also, seven grandchildren, Robert, Christian, and James Lamoureux; Charles and Douglas Barbon; and Gregory and Alicia Barbon; one great grandchild, Gabriel Lamoureux; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Barbon and a sister, Dorothy Hess.
Bob was born in Reading, PA the son of George T. and Tillie (Wysopal) Barbon, where he graduated from Reading High School with honors and Albright College on a Parish Steel scholarship. Bob retired in 2013 from UMass Memorial Hospital where he worked as an engineer and previously worked at Neles-Jamesbury. A long-time member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, Bob enjoyed many years as a choir member. He was also a Knights of Columbus member, Alhambra Council, and a member of the Greendale Men's Club where he enjoyed singing.
Bob enjoyed and was involved in every aspect of family life. He was an enthusiastic coach of sports, specifically baseball at Ty Cobb Little League. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cherished the times he dressed up as Santa Claus at National Guard Christmas parties, local schools, and for the neighborhood kids. He had a passion for nature/outdoors, learning, music, games, good books, trivia, photography and especially history. Bob traveled extensively with his best friend and life partner Gini. Also, he had an incredible sense of humor and was great at telling stories.
His funeral is Tuesday, April 4th with a Mass at 5:00 p.m. in OUR LADY THE ANGELS CHURCH, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. His visitation will be held in the church from 3:30 p.m. until the start of the service. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to Our Lady of the Angels Church or to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
