Jane M. Brightman, 82, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday March 28, 2023 after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Lester T. and Stasia M. (Pykosz) Brightman, she was raised in Westport and lived in New Bedford for many years. She was a graduate of Westport High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst and her Master’s degree from Boston College.
Jane was formerly employed as a registered nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years until her retirement. She later served as the interim director of the Landmark Assisted Living in Fall River.
She was an active parishioner of St. Julie Billiart Church, where she assisted as a CCD instructor. She was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for her dedicated service to her parish. She was a patron of the Zeiterion Theater where she enjoyed attending many productions.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen E. Belval and her husband Gilbert; her nieces and nephews, Scott Belval, Wendy Bixler, Kerri Rodriguez, Matthew Brightman, and Lori Brightman; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert L. Brightman.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday April 5th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday April 4th from 4-7 PM.
