Mary Katherine “Kathy” Palmer Freeman Bexton, 87, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Brookfield Memorial Church with the Rev. Jeanie Foe officiating. Mrs. Bexton will be laid to rest at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Bexton will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be livestreamed on Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals Facebook page.
Chris Brown, Nick Brown, Gilbert Hill, Derrick Foe and Bill Foe will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 30, 1935, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Mrs. Bexton was the daughter of the late Everett Overstreet Palmer and Lois Maybell Whiteside Palmer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Harrell “Bill” Bexton, who she married on May 3, 1982, in Tifton; and a son-in-law, John Royall; and her brother, Jerry Neal Palmer. She graduated from Beaverton High School in 1953 and worked at Midland Hospital in Midland, Michigan and retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan in 1990. She lived in Beaverton, Michigan, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Flint, Michigan and Tifton. She was also a member of the Golden Age Club and the Brookfield Friendship Club.
Mrs. Bexton is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Bill Lyons of Lincoln, California, Lori Royall of Houston, Texas, Lisa and Mark Brown of Midland, Michigan; one son, Alan Dale Freeman of Missouri; one sister and brother-in-law, Jill Susan and Lorian Gallihugh of Breckenridge, Michigan; three step-daughters and their husbands, Debbie and James Schlieger of Durand, Michigan, Nancy and Clark Looney of Florida and Cathy and Kenneth Kusky of Burton, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
