Worcester: Zakar Tashjian, 99, passed away on March 27, 2023 peacefully at home. He leaves a brother- Richard “Chum” Tashjian and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters-Doris Tashjian, Nancy Barton, and Rose Tashjian, and 3 brothers- Menes, Archie, and George Tashjian.
Zakar was born in Worcester, son of the late Hagop and Norkan (Shabouian) Tashjian. He graduated from Holden High School and earned his Bachelors Degree from St. Francis College in 1951. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was part of the Normandy Beach invasion. He piloted boats to and from shore, including one with General George Patton aboard. He worked for many years as a purchasing manager at Reed Rolled Thread Die Company in Holden, where he retired from. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid jogger and swimmer at the Greendale YMCA. He also loved going to the horse track at Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park.
Burial with military honors in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester, will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 am. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave an online condolence message, please click guestbook link.
