Walter L. Cotter 94, of Middleboro, and a former resident of North Attleboro passed away peacefully, with family at his side, Monday March 27, 2023 at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. "Patty" (Dangelo) Cotter, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
He was born in Boston on January 20, 1929, son of the late Joseph and Ann (Winters) Cotter. Walter grew up in Winthrop and Stoughton, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1948.
Walter was an Army veteran during the Korean war and a career assemblyman at General Motors in Framingham.
He loved all sports, playing football, basketball, and baseball in high school, semi-pro football and many years of men’s league hockey. His favorite past-time was watching ‘the game’, especially the Patriots and Celtics.
Walter took great pleasure in spending time at the beach, especially in Maine, Cape Cod, Newport, Marco Island, FL, and the Carribean.
Above all else, Walter loved his family. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Patricia, his daughters Diane Hastings and her husband, Bill, of North Andover and Doreen Chennar and her husband, Alfred, of Canton, his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Nicholas, and Cameron Hastings and Jasmine Chennar as well as many nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by his six siblings Paul Cotter, Helen Runcie, Gerard Cotter, Joseph Cotter Jr, Ruth Cotter, and Robert Cotter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday April 4th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 1 Church Square Franklin at 10AM.
Burial with military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday April 3rd, from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
