Obituary

Omagene West Davis Holland, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Thursday, March 30, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Greg Pope officiating and Jonathan Burch delivering the eulogy. Interment will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia, with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM, Wednesday evening, at the Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Holland, a daughter of the late James Marion and Susan Ella Sexton West, was born October 30, 1932, in Marianna, Florida. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas Davis; her second husband, Ernest Lester Holland; a daughter, Janice Davis; 12 sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Holland is survived by her daughter, Debra Burch and her husband, Johnny of Fitzgerald; one grandson, Jonathan Burch and his wife, Melissa of Fitzgerald; and one granddaughter, Emily Howell and her husband, Jimmy of Fitzgerald; and four great-grandchildren: Olivia Burch, Kate Howell, Jadyn Howell and Kerrigan Howell.

Mrs. Holland graduated from Marianna High School, in Marianna, Florida, in 1950. She then moved to Columbus, Georgia. She was employed as the Clerk of the County Commissioners prior to Consolidation. When the City and County consolidated in 1971, she was appointed Budget Director. Later she was appointed as Director of Budget and Purchasing and was serving in this capacity when she retired in 1995.

Britt David Baptist Church, in Columbus was a very important part of her life. There, she served in many capacities, including Church Clerk, Church Treasurer, Sr. Adult Coordinator, Sunday School Secretary, Audit Committee, Leadership in WMU, member of the Adult 11 Sunday School Class and member of the Sr. Adult Choir. The time Mrs. Holland spent working with the Sr. Adults was the most fulfilling to her. Following her retirement from the City, she became involved with the Consolidated Government Retirement Association and served on the Board of Directors and President of the Association. Mrs. Holland moved to the Fitzgerald, Georgia area in 2015 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she attended the Dorcas Golden Circle Sunday School Class.
