Henry Chamberlain
Groton — Henry Joseph Chamberlain of Groton, born June 17, 1923, in Hartford, he was just a mere 80 days shy of his 100th Birthday. Henry was a World War II Combat Veteran in the Pacific. He operated the beach invasion landing craft. Henry was proud of his military service and spoke sympathetically of the people and soldiers he met during his time in the Pacific region of our World. His wife of 72 years, Mary Margaret Chamberlain (May 28,1925 — Jan. 18, 2023) predeceased him.
They were survived by their three sons, David (wife Nora), Bruce, and Tom (wife Anne); nephew, Tony (wife Juliann); seven grandchildren, Christopher, Bryce (wife Claire) Daniel, Meredith (husband Taylor), Chelsea, Timothy, and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Owen. Up until 2021, Henry and Mary split their time between Vero Beach, Fla. and Mumford Cove. He loved people, and people loved him. Henry was one of the most outgoing and charismatic members of the family. He always knew when there was going to be a party; and he was always in attendance.
Henry’s love for the ocean continued after he left the Navy. Summers were always spent on the water in his Boston Whaler. If there was a Napatree trip to go on, a seal watching excursion, a fireworks display, or a submarine launch; Henry was sure to be ready at the dock with his life jacket on.
Henry was a proud person. Henry was not only a devoted husband and father, but a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He and Mary spent an immense amount of their free time in Connecticut with their grandchildren and were fortunate enough to experience their grandson Bryce’s two children, their great grandchildren, grow up over the last few years. Henry’s life and legacy is insurmountable. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and all who loved him. In Henry’s words, “Chamberlain Pride”.
A Catholic Ceremony followed by a Burial of Christian faith will be at the convenience of the family.
