Evelyn Goulston DeCosta, 87, of Stoughton, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston following a brief illness.
She was the cherished wife of nearly five years of Edward J. DeCosta of Stoughton. She was previously married to the late L. Henry Goulston of Stoughton. Formerly of Milton and Readville, Mass. Evelyn graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester. Devoted daughter of the late Ethel and Louis Isenberg of Milton, loving sister of the late Mildred Bass of Stoughton, sister-in-law of the late Louis H. Bass of Stoughton, and beloved aunt of Judy Bass of Stoughton. Cousin of Dr. Howard Isenberg of New York and Dr. Elliott Isenberg, Ph.D., of California. Caring stepmother of Carolyn Parker-Cooper (Matthew) of West Roxbury, Karen Timm (Ronald) of Centerville, Cheryl (Isaac) Guzman and Radina (Thomas) Williamson of Florida, Amybeth (Brian) Silva of Taunton, Alex (Ali) DeCosta of Minnesota. Step-great-grandmother of Riley and Xavier Durham of Randolph. Step-grandmother of Victoria, Gabriella, Lilly, Xavier, Sophia, Vincent, Ronnie, Cody, Magnolia, Paisley, Keane, Maxwell, Arryonna and AJ.
Evelyn was a very special and talented person in numerous ways. She had a tremendous flair for art which emerged in portriats of people that she created over the course of many years. Evelyn meticulously applied paint to their photographs, thus making ordinary images into extraordinary ones. She worked for optometrist Dr. Ronald M. Cline in Mattapan and later, for New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton. Evelyn’s pleasures were simple ones – watching classic movies at home with her husband or niece, visiting new places, relaxing at Halloran Park in Stoughton with her husband, talking to her friends and visiting extended family. She loved her family more than anything in the world and always put them first. Evelyn meant so much more people than she ever realized. The enormous and painful void she leaves will never be filled. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life at the Stoughton Senior Housing Community Room at 4 Capen Street, Stoughton, MA on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 3-5 pm. Evelyn’s Burial will be private at Sharon Memorial Park.
