Obituary

Michael Joseph Daly Sr. passed away on March 22nd peacefully with family by his side at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Susan (LaRose). Loving Father of Michele Daly (54) and her Life Partner, Edwin Boughter of Norwood, Michael Daly (52) and his wife, Christine Daly, of Canton; David Daly (50) and his husband, Stephen Paez, of Miami, Florida; Matthew Daly (44) and his wife Allison Daly, of Conway, SC; and Timothy Daly (42) and his wife Annie Daly of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Grandfather of Caroline Daly, Matthew Daly and Quinn Daly of Conway, SC; Grace Daly, Patty Daly and Maggie Daly of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Shawn Burns and Ashley Balunas of Canton, Ma. Brother of Mildred Hathaway and Helen Zanowski along with three previously deceased sisters including Carole Anne, Theresa and Susan. He is survived by many nieces and nephews along with countless friends that he considered his family.

A proud Bostonian, he was born to Michael and Mildred Daly, on December 7, 1940 and raised in South Boston. He graduated from South Boston High School and enjoyed a rewarding career at the MBTA where he retired in management after 23 years. He continued working for a few years as a consultant for the MWRA, then as a custodian for St. Theresa’s School and at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.

A few years after marrying the love of his life, Susan (LaRose) Daly, they moved to West Roxbury where, together, they raised their family of five children. Mike & Sue were happily married more than 55 years and together for 58 years. They lived in West Roxbury for more than 50 years and enjoyed a lifetime of fun adventures including countless trips to their favorite spot-Walt Disney World. Mike loved spending quality time with friends and family, specifically watching the Patriots play or enjoying a round of golf.


Mike always put his family first in life. His engaging personality and infectious smile lit up every room he entered. He was an active member of the West Roxbury and St. Theresa’s community. Throughout his time in West Roxbury his life was filled with tremendous friendships and relationships. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #3049 and he coached Parkway little league, boys & girls basketball, Parkway soccer and was a CYO Advisor.


Visiting hours at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Monday, March 27th, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Tuesday, March 28th at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa’s Church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either Leukemia Lymphoma Society or https://givenow.lls.org/ or the Make-A-Wish www.wish.org
